Lots of people watch 'CSI,' just maybe not teen (and tween) girls. That's about to change after CBS announced Thursday that heart-melter Justin Bieber has signed on to play a troubled kid in the upcoming season of the hugely popular crime drama.
The network said in a statement that The Biebs will make his prime-time acting debut as Jason McCann, a "troubled teen who is faced with a terrible decision regarding his only brother." This decision will lead the 'Baby' boy "into an explosive confrontation with the CSIs" that the network says won't be resolved until later into the season.
Turning saccharine Bieber into a bad kid will be a fete of TV magic, but the singer is already hard at work, telling his Twitter followers he's working with an acting coach and "learning a new craft."
As stoked as Bieber and his fans must be, CBS and 'CSI' officials are even more gushy about the casting coo as "true event television."
"Every 20 years, a phenomenon like Justin Bieber graces our world. We'd like to believe that the phenomenon of CSI has had the same impact on popular culture. The opportunity to bring them together in the premiere is a great treat for our audience and all of its new viewers," said creator Don McGill, writer Carol Mendelsohn, and producer Anthony Zuiker in a statement. "This will be true event television."
CBS won't have Bieber all to himself, though.
ABC recently announced that Bieber will also make a cameo in the second season of 'Shaq Vs.,' the reality competition series with Shaquille O'Neal. The NBA star will visit Bieber and join in a dance crew competition.
