If you type the words "James Franco" on an internet search, most likely the word "gay" automatically appears behind it. Fans are obviously dying to know: is James Franco gay?
The actor, who is up for a Golden Globe for his role in 127 Hours, has an IMDB resume full of gay roles (most famously from Milk) and has recently posed in drag for Candy magazine, is well-aware of the speculation that comes with the territory.
A co-host for this year's Academy Awards, Franco sat down with Entertainment Weekly for their most recent cover story and voiced his opinion on the gay gossip.
"It's all cut-and-dry identity politics," Franco said. "'Is he straight or is he gay?' or 'this is your third gay movie- come out already!' And all based on, gay or straight, based on the idea that your object of affection decides your sexuality."
Franco, who actually has been romantically linked to actress Ahna O'Reilly for years, also defended his character choices by saying there are "lots of other aspects about these characters that I'm interested in, in addition to their sexuality."
"Part of what I'm interested in is how these people who were living anti-normative lifestyles contended to opposition," he said. "Or you know what, maybe I'm gay."
What we love about this is that instead of adamantly denying being gay like many other actors have, Franco seems to embrace the gossip. Keep the mystery fresh, Franco!
